Pangani Underpass is open
Posted by wilfred on Feb 18, 2012 in blog | CommentsThe hallmark of the Nairobi-Thika Highway Project is finally open. Pangani underpass that links Thika Road to Muranga Rd and Forest Rd is open to traffic. After waiting for almost ages since the contractors started in 2009, China Wu Yi officially opened the underpass.
Thika Road motorists could not help smiling as passengers stared endlessly as vehicles descended into the underpass. The section is clearly marked but since morning drivers still appeared confused. Some though took this chance to show off their prowess in driving by cruising down in crazy speeds. nevertheless the mood was positive.
The underpass is well lit with fluorescent lamps all through powered by a standby generator above, hope it will be there during the night. Reflective stickers keep things down there visible.
▲PANGANI UNDERPASS: Temporary signs have been placed to inform drivers. Pedestrians are still a problem.
▲MAXIMUM HEADROOM: 5.5Metres
▲EXIT1:Muranga Road Exit to City Centre
EXIT2: Forest Road
▲STILL JAM: Even after Pangani was opened, traffic jam was still a problem to Muthaiga.
The true effect of Pangani is going to be felt once Muthaiga is done. At Muthaiga there is a similar, but longer! tunnrl that cuts right under the whole area from Kiambu Road. Good work China Wu Yi and Motorways Co.
